Ainsdale Discovery Centre

Open during the summer, the Discovery Centre provides a popular place for visitors to the coast to pop into on their way to the beach and provides a gateway to Ainsdale and Birkdale Sandhills Local Nature Reserve. Located just off Shore Road on the edge of the beautiful sandy beach, the centre offers a wide selection of information on the rich cultural and natural history of Ainsdale and the surrounding coast and provides an insight into the work of the Coast and Countryside Service. The centre is popular with schools and other visiting groups and has a programme of events throughout the year.

Ainsdale Discovery Centre can be reached by public transport and the footpaths and cycle-ways that line the coast. The nearest bus stops are in Pinfolds Lane and Gleneagles Drive, while Ainsdale train station is just less than 1 mile away.

By car from the south, take the M6 to exit 26; the M58 will take you to Ormskirk at junction 3, then take the A570 to Southport and turn left along the promenade. From the North, follow the A59 from Preston (exit 31 from the M6) and then follow signs to Southport. Formal parking is provided with beach access points.
